January’s over. Celebrate with live music. Here’s our 5 February gig picks…

We apologise for the tardiness of this article. If we were still at Uni we’d claim extenuating circumstances. We’re not, so that simply makes us failures. Here are our 5 Bristol gigs to check out in February.

1. Budada  – Thursday, 6th Feb – Birdcage – £3

Describing Budada’s unique sound isn’t easy. Heavy indie rock overtones are fused with hints of folk, punk, pop, and noise to create something that’s both catchy and gritty at the same time. The Bath based band come over to Bristol to promote the release of their new EP Scum Rises to the Top on the 6th Feb – well worth checking out.

2. BRIDGES – Friday, 7th Feb – Birdcage – £3

The stars of our most recent podcast, BRIDGES are an indie/alternative guitar-based band who describe themselves as energetic, honest & raw. We can’t argue with that, but we’d also throw into the mix fearless, fresh & exciting. The boys return to Bristol to play the Birdcage on the penultimate date of their most recent tour – if you see one gig this month, let it be this one.

3. The Twang – Saturday, 15th Feb – The Fleece – £14

Even though The Twang never quite became the band we all hoped they would be, their rock-with-a-nod-to-dance is still something to be admired. We also hear the band come to life during their live sets. That’s exactly what we’re looking for from live music, and that makes The Twang are our third gig to see this month.

4. Catfish & The Bottlemen – Tuesday, 25th Feb – Louisiana -£7

A four piece Welsh indie rock outlet whose tracks are characterised by loud and explosive guitars, Catfish & the Bottlemen are most certainly an act to keep an eye on in 2014. They’ve got the backing of some big-named XFM DJs and the London and Manchester dates of their most recent tour are already sold out. Get your tickets in early, this one’s gonna be a good’un.

5. Eagulls – Friday, 28th Feb – Louisiana – £7 (pictured)

Remember when bands had a bit more to them than just ‘we work hard, go on holiday, then repeat’? That’s the era Eagulls are coming from. These guys recently slammed pretty much every band in pretty much every genre in an open rant on their blog, and their music is everything you’d expect from an angry 5 piece rock band from the Midlands. We’ll be joining them at the the Louie just to see what happens.

There are our 5 gigs to see this month – but as always, if you feel we’ve missed something just get in touch.
