March is upon us. here are 5 bristol gigs to enjoy til she clambers off.

New month. 5 gigs. Need we say more?

1. Pendentif – Friday 7th March – The Bristol Fringe – Free!

Missed out on £20 Metronomy tickets this month? Get yourself over to the Bristol Fringe on the 7th for some easy-listening electronic French pop courtesy of Pendentif. French pop, it turns out, is about 600 times better then UK pop, and the fact that lead vocalist Cindy Callede writes and sings in French only adds to the allure. Best of all, there’s no cover charge.

2. Wolfhound – Saturday 15th March – The Birdcage –  £3

Despite a 3 piece all-female line up, Wolfhound are a far cry from the all-girl indie-pop outlet Haim. These girls sway heavily towards the folk side of the spectrum, conjuring up the kind of spell-binding harmonies that lull captive audiences into silence… even on Saturday nights. Get to the Birdcage early and find yourself a comfy sofa for this one.

3. Interpol – Wednesday, 26th March – O2 Academy Bristol – £21.50

The month’s big gig. Yes, it’s part of the NME awards tour and yes, that does devalue it immeasurably, but Interpol with support from Temples, Royal Blood and Circa Waves? We reckon if you’re going to spend big on a gig this month, this should be it  (even if it is just for the spine-tingling moment in which Paul Banks opens his mouth to reunite Carlos Dengler’s expectant bass with it’s beloved ‘Rosemary’).

4. Dan Croll – Friday 28th March (6pm)– Rise Records – Free!

To describe Dan Croll as a singer/songwriter would be doing him a dis-service. Whilst we’re certain leaving Dan alone with a mic and a guitar would lead to naught but good things, he brings a lot more to the table than that. His delightful fusion of electronica and folk delivered through a five piece touring band ensures onlookers stand up and take note, and those fortunate enough to leave work early on Friday the 28th can catch him for free at Rise Records before his (£8) Thekla performance later the same day.

5. Moon Club – Saturday 29th March – The Birdcage – £3

The last Saturday of the month sees Bristol band Moon Club take five minutes off recording their first EP to perform live over at one of Corn Street’s leading cafe-come-bars. Catchy guitar riffs and vocals that err on the side of psychedelic are what make the band both unique and noteworthy, even at such an early stage in their career. Support from Aztecs & Why We Love means this one gets our seal of approval.
