lo-fi, ambient indie rock three piece copyclub pop in to Bristol Beats Club HQ to chat about their rather beautifully crafted music

At the time of writing, it is but a few days before the 2014 Easter bank holiday and Bristol is characteristically gearing up for a long weekend of live music. Tiers will be rocking it over at the Birdcage, These Colours will make an appearance at the Lanes and Hit The Deck Festival will take over four of the city’s most iconic music venues. And over at the Stag and Hounds? It’s CopyClub.

We don’t expect you to know who CopyClub are. Very few people do. But by the time you’ve listened to their expertly crafted ambient tones (which are subtlety laced in-between the above interview) they’ll likely be high on your list of artists to see this coming weekend.

Our chat with CopyClub covers:

  • How the band met & how they settled on their sound
  • Track 1, Hugo, & the meaning behind its (rather emotive) lyrics (1:55)
  • Who they’d most like to sit down and have a drink with
  • Who they’d least like to have a drink with… that’s you, Paul
  • Track 2, Scratch The Surface, & its iPad origins (9:20)
  • Whether being from Bristol hampers bands’ opportunities
  • Track 3, Off Balance, which is the band’s new single (17:15)

and what to expect from the band’s iPad-heavy live set. Listeners be warned: Peter Griffin makes an appearance in this otherwise civilised podcast.
